November Roller Skating Practice
Well, hello everyone and happy November!
It’s still toasty here in Southern California (fall vibes, but make it 80° 😅). I know many of you are in cooler climates or can’t always access a big skating space, so this month is all about minimal-space practice. Everything here can be done indoors or in a small space.
As always, all drills, skills, and choreography are inside the Roll With Me Membership on ThatNicoleFiore.com and YouTube. In the Site Membership, everything is displayed on its own page and you can track your progress throughout each section. You can preview all of the drills here, skills here, and choreography here!
If you're new here, hi! I’m Nicole Fiore, 4-time World Champion artistic roller skater, coach, and choreographer. Through my Membership and Courses, I teach skaters all over the world how to roller skate step by step, gain confidence, and have fun. I’m here for questions anytime! Please let me know if you want or need any help 🫶🏼
Each month I highlight a few roller skating drills, skills, and choreography routines for you to focus on. Let’s dive into this month!
This Month’s Focus
Drill: Strut Training
Skill: Corkscrew Spin
• Choreography: Shake Your Groove Thing - Beginner/Intermediate and Advanced
Before we dive into more detail, here’s a reminder: whether you’re a beginner, intermediate, or advanced skater, you’ll find lessons that meet you right where you’re at. The most important thing is to have fun 🫶🏼
Roller Skating Drill: Strut Training
Strutting on skates isn’t just “one foot in front of the other.” You’re on wheels!!!!! Balance, posture, and mind/ body connection matter.
Why it helps:
Hamstrings & Core: power and stability for each step
Shoulders & Posture: confident carriage (no wobbling)
Foot placement: place the foot down softly (don’t “plop”)
How to use it:
Do this drill 1–3×/ week (it’s super effective and perfect for tiny spaces)
Mix on-skate and off-skate versions to build strength and control
Treat it like a mini workout that directly improves your skating (because it will 💃🏻)

Roller Skating Skill: Corkscrew Spin
I get questions about this skill all the time (at least a few times each week!) The corkscrew is essentially a really strong outer-forward edge to create a little circle (I usually do 1 - 2 rotations). Because it’s brief, you can (and should) practice both directions without it feeling like a full commitment to your “non-dominant” spinning side.
Some notes to remember:
If you’re more comfortable with one direction (totally normal), still give the other side a few reps.
• Want to dive further into your spins? There are full skills videos for the one-foot spin, two-foot spin, heel-toe spin, outer-back upright, outer-forward upright, and more inside the membership.
Video length: 19 minutes, 08 seconds

Choreography: Shake Your Groove Thing
Back by popular demand❕ I recently taught this at RollerCon in a sold-out choreography class and it was so much fun… even for skaters who felt intimidated by choreography. It’s fun, musical, works beautifully in small spaces, and can be done off skates too.
Beginner/ Intermediate: simplified, friendly pace, playful groove
Advanced: includes a strut, heel/toe manual, spin, and a corkscrew-style exit from a rotation
Zero rules, all the fun: Prefer a turnaround instead of a corkscrew? Do it. Make choices that feel good in your space and body. Invite your family to dance alongside you!
Family-Friendly November: I love making November a month you can invite your people into (on-skates or off). This choreography is fun off-skates too, so bring the family into your practice session. Dance together, laugh a lot, and make some memories. 🧡
Beginner/ Intermediate video length: 16 minutes, 55 seconds [Link: Website, YouTube]
Advanced video length: 16 minutes, 36 seconds [Link: Website, YouTube]

Make sure you send your progress to me throughout the month. I know that recording yourself can be a little scary, but I promise that when you look back at your videos six months, a year, five years from now, you are going to be amazed at how far you've come. All of the little things add up over time!
If you are practicing on Instagram, please tag me and #quadsociety! I love to see and share your progress! Lastly, don’t forget about the wonderful community on Discord. Everything is better with friends!
Please don’t hesitate to reach out and let me know if you would like more help. You can book in-person private lessons or online private lessons here!
